Subsea Programs: Explore the Depths with Expedition Audacity

The Deep Beckons — Help Us Dive Further

ROV Program

Support the ROV Program for Expedition Audacity.

We are raising funds to equip R/V Audacity with a matched pair of advanced Remotely Operated Vehicles (ROVs)—underwater systems that enhance marine research by exploring the ocean from the sunlit shallows to depths of 1,000 metres, breaching the edge of the Twilight Zone, one of Earth’s least understood and most mysterious environments.

These ROVs are far more than machines; they are our eyes in the deep and our safety net.

For some of us, they represent the only way we still connect with the world beneath the waves, complementing our Scuba Program and enriching our understanding of marine ecosystems.

Built for the Deep. Designed for Discovery.

Each ROV in our ROV Program will be outfitted with a suite of scientific sensors and 4K-capable optical systems to collect critical environmental data and high-resolution imagery in real time. These submersibles are capable of navigating both crystal-clear waters and blackout conditions, allowing for marine research to be conducted autonomously or via tethered control, ensuring precise and stable work at depth—even under pressure.

Designed with the Twilight Zone in mind, where temperatures hover around 4°C (39°F) and light disappears just 200 metres below the surface, these systems enable our crew to conduct safe, non-invasive research, collect biological samples, and document elusive marine life in places where traditional scuba programs cannot reach safely.

A Tool for Science, Safety, and Storytelling

Our ROV program will support every pillar of Expedition Audacity’s mission:

Scientific Research: Through our marine research efforts, we will deploy sensors, sample biomes, and monitor biodiversity without disturbing fragile habitats.

Documentary Filmmaking: Our ROV program will capture never-before-seen footage of deep-sea life for our global audience.

Education & Outreach: We aim to deliver immersive visuals for VR and STEAM+ curricula, bringing the deep ocean to children who may never see it otherwise.

Crew Safety: As part of our SCUBA program, we will perform hull inspections, assess underwater hazards, and provide live safety monitoring for SCUBA teams in the water.

This is not just about science. It’s about storytelling. It’s about safety. And for one of us, it’s personal.

Captain Red’s Story – When the Dive Ends, but the Mission Doesn’t

In 2021, just outside Thamesford, Ontario, our founder and expedition leader, Captain Christopher Redman (Captain Red), suffered a traumatic brain injury after an unprovoked assault with a hammer by a mentally ill farmer. The attack ended his diving career, leaving him with permanent neurological trauma and daily migraines.

But it did not end his passion for the ocean or his commitment to marine research. It didn’t stop the mission. It simply changed how he engages with the sea.

For Captain Red—and for so many others facing physical barriers to traditional fieldwork—ROVs represent not just a tool, but a second chance. Through our ROV Program, he found a way to continue exploring and stay connected to the underwater world.

These machines will allow him to continue doing what he loves most: leading expeditions, mentoring young scientists in our Scuba Program, and helping tell the ocean’s untold stories.

Expedition Audacity Scuba Program

Dive Deep. Think Deeper.

At Expedition Audacity, diving isn’t just a thrill—it’s a tool. A responsibility. And for many of us, a way of life.

Our Scuba Program offers a truly immersive experience—uniting the awe of underwater exploration with the rigour of frontline marine research. Whether you’re slipping beneath the surface for the first time or are already seasoned in the deep, this programme is designed to build skill, fuel discovery, and serve the ocean in equal measure. Additionally, we also offer an ROV Program for those interested in exploring the depths with cutting-edge technology.

Participants in the scuba program will undergo rigorous training and certification under the guidance of certified scuba instructors, who are also involved in marine research initiatives. The program accommodates both beginners and advanced divers, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all. Emphasis is placed on adhering to strict safety protocols and procedures to enhance the overall diving experience, which is also complemented by the insights gained from our ROV program.

Train Hard. Dive Safe. Learn Always.

Led by certified instructors, our Scuba Program welcomes both beginners and advanced divers. Safety isn’t just a checklist—it’s a culture. We train to international standards, using state-of-the-art gear and strict protocols to ensure that every dive is calm, confident, and low-impact. In addition to exploring the underwater world, our program emphasizes marine research, allowing divers to contribute to vital ecological studies. But we’re not just diving for the view; we’re diving with purpose through our innovative ROV Program.

Science Beneath the Surface

What makes this programme unique is its direct integration with our marine research missions. Divers don’t just observe—they contribute. From eDNA sampling to coral health monitoring and underwater photogrammetry, you’ll work alongside our scientists and documentary crew to collect real data in real environments as part of our ROV Program and Scuba Program.

We’ll introduce you to the tools of modern marine science—from handheld sensors to submersible drones—and train you in the techniques used to capture the stories written in the reefs, seagrass meadows, and coastal ecosystems we explore.

Conservation in Action

Every diver becomes a steward. As part of the Scuba Program, you’ll engage in hands-on restoration work—from coral planting to marine debris removal—while also contributing to marine research efforts that support Expedition Audacity’s core mission: protecting the wild blue world. Additionally, our ROV Program provides unique opportunities to explore underwater environments and enhance our conservation initiatives. We work closely with local communities, schools, and conservation partners to build lasting, inclusive impact through education and outreach.

More Than a Program—It’s a Tribe

Diving should be more than just a certificate. That’s why we’re building a tight-knit, global community of purpose-driven divers through the Expedition Audacity Scuba Club—a space for connection, continued learning, and future expeditions focused on marine research. Members will have access to exclusive dives, advanced courses, including our ROV Program, guest speakers, and collaborative projects across our global network.

Ready to Breathe Deep and Step In?

The sea is calling. Not just to explore marine research—but to understand. Not just to witness our ROV Program—but to protect through our Scuba Program. Join us. Dive in. Make it count.
