Welcome to E.A.R.

Expedition Audacity Research Foundation

In a world tilting dangerously out of balance, the Expedition Audacity Research Foundation exists to bear witness, gather evidence, and ignite change. We are scientists, explorers, sailors, and storytellers—but above all, we are guardians of ecosystems too often silenced by politics, profit, or neglect.

We go where few dare to tread. From the melting edges of the Arctic to the flooded lungs of the Amazon, our missions are anchored in one simple truth: you cannot protect what you do not understand.

Operating at the sharp edge of environmental science and human courage, we deliver frontline research, conservation action, and cultural preservation where it’s needed most. Our vessel-based expeditions are not cruises.

They are commitments.

Our Flagship Programmes

  • Expedition Audacity – Our global flagship: a wind-powered research vessel navigating high-risk zones and remote ecosystems to document marine life, track illegal activity, and monitor climate impacts in real time. When others turn back, we set sail.

  • Audax Ventus – Our frontline impact programme: focused on Indigenous peoples and wildlife worldwide, Audax Ventus documents the effects of climate change and industrialisation on culture, ecosystems, and survival. Through ethical storytelling and field research, we amplify voices, track patterns, and fight for those most affected—and too often ignored.

  • Expedition Luminescence – Our bioluminescent frontier: a journey into the ocean’s twilight zones and the cultural knowledge intertwined with them. Part science. Part magic. Entirely vital.

  • Resource Stewardship Operations – A discreet but essential wing of our work, supporting frontline defenders and coastal communities with tools, data, and training to protect their homelands from exploitation.
    Quiet work. Loud impact.

Why We Exist

We are living in the decisive decade. The ecosystems that feed, breathe, and shelter us are collapsing—and the window for change is closing fast.

The E.A.R. Foundation isn’t here to make people feel better. We’re here to make them care—through evidence, experience, and stories impossible to ignore. We honour Indigenous knowledge, advance planetary science, and foster global collaboration to restore what’s been lost.

We are a 100% volunteer-led organisation. Not one dollar from our donors or sponsors goes to salaries.

This is not charity.
It’s responsibility.

R/V Audacity

Expedition Audacity's Flagship Science Vessel

Where bold ideas set sail.

R/V Audacity is a steel-hulled, ocean-going research vessel designed to carry science into the heart of the wild. Outfitted for long-range missions and harsh conditions, she serves as a mobile field station for cutting-edge environmental research.

At sea, we specialise in eRNA and eDNA collection—rapid genetic sampling techniques that allow us to map biodiversity, detect elusive species, and monitor ecosystem health without ever disturbing the creatures we’re studying. This is science without harm, built for a planet in crisis.

But Expedition Audacity is more than a floating lab. She’s also a launchpad for the next generation of changemakers. Through our Independent Science Residency Programme, we offer recent graduates the opportunity to conduct their own research projects aboard—free of cost. No institutional red tape. No gatekeeping. Just honest science, on the frontlines of change.

If you’ve got the passion, we’ve got the vessel. Let’s go to where the questions haven’t been asked yet—and help find the answers together.

Education & Outreach – Learning on the Frontlines of Discovery

Because science means nothing if it isn’t shared.

The Education & Outreach (E&O) team at Expedition Audacity exists to turn exploration into transformation. Our mission is simple but ambitious: share boldly, collaborate deeply, and document honestly—across every scientific, cultural, and nautical chapter of our journey.

At the heart of our work is a globally accessible STEAM+ curriculum—Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, Mathematics, and beyond. It’s designed not for classrooms alone, but for communities, coastlines, and curious minds wherever they may be.

We don’t just drop anchor—we build relationships. Our crew works hand-in-hand with local communities, onboard experts, and select classrooms to co-create learning that’s culturally grounded, inclusive, and truly equitable. Every conversation becomes curriculum. Every voice adds value.

Through Expedition Luminescence, we’re lighting a new path for education at sea—bringing students face-to-face with primary-source material in real time. From bioluminescent creatures to climate shifts, young learners don’t just read about the world—they explore it, alongside those living and studying it.

This isn’t textbook science.
This is living knowledge.
And it belongs to all of us.

Audax Ventus – Listening to the Wind, Bearing Witness on Land and Sea

Because climate doesn’t only change at sea.

While Expedition Audacity delivers ocean-based science, Audax Ventus focuses on the people and species most affected by climate change and industrialisation—Indigenous communities and wildlife at the frontlines of a rapidly shifting planet.

From Arctic tundra to equatorial floodplains, from collapsing bee colonies to vanishing glaciers, Audax Ventus documents how global systems of extraction and exploitation are disrupting ancient knowledge, ecological balance, and cultural survival.

We combine ethical storytelling with rigorous field research—using drones, environmental sensors, and direct collaboration with communities to capture the full picture. Every insight is rooted in trust. Every story is shared with care. Whether we're mapping wildfire scars, tracking shifting migrations, or spotlighting traditional ecological knowledge, our mission is clear:
to bear witness, elevate lived experience, and turn stories into action.

Audax Ventus is not just a programme.
It’s a promise—

To listen deeply.
To speak responsibly.
To stand where others won’t,
so future generations won’t have to.

Our Lens on the World – Documentary Storytelling from the Edge of the Map

Because some stories can only be told by those who go there.

Our film crew travels with purpose—capturing life in the planet’s most remote, awe-inspiring places. Through powerful visuals and unfiltered storytelling, we open a rare window into ecosystems and cultures most will never witness—but all must come to understand.

At sea and ashore, we reveal the beauty and complexity of marine biodiversity, while confronting the stark realities of climate change already reshaping every shoreline. But our lens doesn’t stop at the wild—it honours those who live alongside it.

We work in close partnership with Inuit communities to share their stories, resilience, and generations of knowledge—recognising them not as subjects, but as stewards and storytellers in their own right.

Life aboard our vessel is part of the story, too—from the rigours of daily research to the thrill of discovery. Above the surface or below it, science lives here.

Using SCUBA—and soon, deep-sea ROVs—we’ll take viewers into the ocean’s hidden realms, capturing rare footage of life in the deep. It’s more than a look beneath the waves. It’s an invitation to care.

Because when you truly see the world, you just might fight to save it.

Wild Places, Young Hearts – Bringing the Planet to Children Who Can’t Yet Explore It

Because every child deserves a window to the wild.

In collaboration with the Stanford Chariot Program, Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children, and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, our film crew is leading the creation of a pioneering 3D and Virtual Reality learning experience—designed especially for children in acute care.

For many of these young explorers, the great outdoors is a world they may never walk through. So we’re bringing it to them.

Through immersive, cinematic storytelling—captured in some of the most remote and breathtaking places on Earth—this curriculum allows children to dive beneath the waves, trek through wild forests, and fly over Arctic ice, all from the safety of their hospital rooms.

It’s more than a distraction.
It’s a lifeline to wonder.

By blending environmental education with cutting-edge technology, the programme sparks curiosity, connection, and joy—nurturing a deep bond with the natural world for those whose journeys look different, but whose dreams are just as vast.

Because every child deserves the chance to explore.

And every wild place deserves a future generation who cares.

In Deep with Sylvia Earle – A Global Hope Spot Initiative

E.A.R Foundation is honoured to partner with legendary oceanographer Dr. Sylvia Earle and the Mission Blue team in a bold new marine research initiative—one that spans continents, ecosystems, and the very heart of ocean conservation.

This mission sets sail from the Hope Spot in Greece, charting a course through every designated Hope Spot across the globe during our vessel’s upcoming circumnavigation. Each location represents a sanctuary in the making—critical habitats where marine life still thrives, and where protection can still make a difference.

Our crew will deploy advanced environmental DNA (eDNA) and RNA (eRNA) analysis to detect and catalogue marine species without disturbing them. This non-invasive genetic sampling, paired with side-scan sonar and acoustic echosounders, will paint a powerful picture of biodiversity, species distribution, and ecosystem health in real time.

Together with Mission Blue, we aim to do more than observe—we aim to protect, restore, and amplify the importance of these blue sanctuaries for all life on Earth.

This is science with a soul. And it’s only just begun.

Sustainability at Sea

Every choice matters when you live by the tide.

At Expedition Audacity, sustainability isn’t a slogan—it’s the foundation beneath our keel. From the vessel we sail to the tools we carry, every decision is shaped by our commitment to tread lightly, leave no trace, and live in alignment with the ecosystems we study.

Our approach is practical, rigorous, and ever-evolving—because true sustainability isn’t about perfection. It’s about accountability, innovation, and doing the hard work even when no one’s watching.

A Journey of a Lifetime – A Wish Set Sail

Because some dreams are meant to be wild.

In partnership with Make-A-Wish Canada and renowned narwhal researcher Dr. Martin Nweeia, Expedition Audacity is deeply honoured to help grant a truly extraordinary wish.

Later this year, we’ll welcome a remarkable child and their family aboard our vessel for a voyage through the untouched beauty of the Northwest Passage—a place where sea ice carves the horizon and silence stretches for miles.

At the heart of this journey: a chance to witness narwhals in their natural habitat—one of the Arctic’s most elusive and majestic species. For many, it’s a scientific rarity. For this child, it’s a dream come true.

Our crew is committed to making every moment unforgettable—blending polar adventure with the quiet magic of granting a wish. It’s a reminder of why we sail. Of what matters. And of the power of wonder to heal, connect, and inspire.

This isn’t just a voyage.

It’s hope, set adrift—and coming home.

Revealing the Ocean’s Hidden Stories – with eRNA & eDNA

As our oceans face mounting threats, Expedition Audacity is taking bold action to protect marine life. In collaboration with EQO, this pioneering mission uses environmental DNA (eDNA) and RNA (eRNA) technologies to uncover the hidden stories of marine ecosystems—without ever disturbing them.

From the sunlit Mediterranean to the icy waters of Baffin Bay, our team collects vast water samples, revealing elusive species, early signs of environmental stress, and real-time insights into the health of the sea. This is not just research—it’s a revolution in how we understand and protect the blue heart of our planet.

Every sample collected, every discovery made, and every partnership formed is another step toward a future where marine ecosystems thrive despite the challenges ahead.

Expedition Audacity is more than a science mission—it’s a call to action.

V.I.P. Discovery Program

Because the planet deserves more airtime than the afterparty.

In a media landscape where celebrity gossip drowns out environmental truth, we’ve chosen a different tactic: bring the storytellers to sea.

Through our Influence with Purpose initiative, we partner with respected voices from music, film, sport, and social media—inviting them aboard our vessel to witness the frontlines of climate and conservation firsthand.

This isn’t a photoshoot. It’s an education.

Immersed in the daily work—sampling microplastics, encountering endangered species, listening to indigenous knowledge—our guests become more than observers. They become allies. Advocates.

And amplifiers.

When these experiences are shared with millions, they carry the salt, the science, and the soul of our mission. Not as PR. But as truth.

Because real influence isn’t measured in likes.

It’s measured in change.
