For more than a decade, DolphinGirl Explorer has worked at the intersection of interspecies communication, ocean advocacy, and creative education, helping bridge the worlds of dolphins, whales, and other sentient beings back to humanity. Her work blends storytelling, science, and art in a way that few others can — revealing cultures beneath the waves that are rich, ancient, and astonishingly familiar.
Today, we are honoured to welcome Dove Joans into the Expedition Audacity Research Foundation family, where her life’s mission aligns seamlessly with our own: protecting marine life, uplifting Indigenous knowledge, and giving voice to the living cultures of the sea.
Who Is DolphinGirl?
Dove Joans is a filmmaker, explorer, author, and advocate recognised globally for her dedication to understanding and communicating the emotional, social, and cultural worlds of cetaceans. Through film, photography, writing, research, and community outreach, she brings audiences into direct relationship with the intelligence and depth of dolphins and whales — not as resources, but as nations in their own right.
Her work is grounded in a simple truth:
dolphins and whales communicate using complex patterns of sound, light, and imagery — the original “picture talking.”
These cultures have evolved for more than 40 million years. They carry knowledge humans are only just beginning to understand.
